The Achensee region offers walking and running enthusiasts an extraordinary variety of routes that bring a genuine sense of joy with every step. Over 180 kilometers of running and walking trails wind through breathtaking scenery, along the majestic Achensee, through shady forests, and up to scenic heights.
But that’s not all there is to running and walking at Lake Achensee. Running events at Lake Achensee, such as the well-known Achenseelauf or the challenging Karwendelmarsch, make it clear that ambitious athletes find their haven here just as much as beginners looking for relaxed routes. The running opportunities in the Achensee region are as diverse as they are scenically impressive.
And here at Der alpine Kraftplatz, we’d like to highlight three of these running opportunities for you.
Running and Nordic Walking Tip: The Notburga Loop
This 7.7-kilometer route, dedicated to St. Notburga, starts at the Achensee Atoll and leads through Maurach to Neumaurach. The idyllic St. Notburga Promenade takes you to the parish church in Eben before you walk back to the starting point along a flat dirt path. With an elevation gain of 130 meters, the loop offers the perfect blend of exercise and relaxation and is simply ideal for running and walking around Lake Achensee.
Running and Nordic Walking Tip: Short Loop Around the Village of Maurach
The 2.9-kilometer loop begins at the SEE-Bad Atoll Achensee and follows the shore through Buchau and along the main road. After passing under the overpass and past the tennis court, you’ll return to the starting point at a leisurely pace. The short Maurach village loop is an easy and scenic route, ideal for a relaxed run or walk along Lake Achensee, featuring picturesque views and a flat terrain.
Running and Nordic Walking Tip: The Long Maurach Village Loop
The 12.1-kilometer route starts at the SEE-Bad Atoll Achensee and follows the shore, past the Dalfazer Waterfall and through the villages of Rofangarten and Neumaurach. Following the idyllic St. Notburga Promenade, you’ll reach the parish church in Eben. Fields and meadows line the return route back to the starting point. Rated as somewhat challenging, with its highest point at 1,190 meters, this loop is perfect for endurance running and walking around Lake Achensee!
